Brandon’s Dad’s Story
The day Brandon turned 19 he made a Representation Agreement and we formed a microboard for him. We had a dinner with family and friends and witnessed that magical moment when he held the pen and made his mark indicating he wanted his mom and dad to be his legal representatives. Everyone else signed in their appropriate places. We all laughed and cried; Brandon was an adult.
Having a Representative Agreement helped things go smoothly when accessing services and benefits. The Representation Agreement was needed when going through CLBC for community supports in the community. We made copies of his Representation Agreement and handed out 13 of them to various organizations who wanted copies : bank, CLBC, PWD, doctor, dentist, accountant, and others. The representative agreement allows us to effectively advocate for Brandon’s life plans. As a recent graduate of DP Todd Secondary School, Brandon’s life is just beginning!
